Each platform's export has a distinctive structure. We inspect the file's shape locally in your browser (never its contents on a server) and route it to the right parser. If we can't recognize the file, we'll say so rather than guess.
Yes, completely. Everything runs in your browser. Your conversations are never uploaded to any server. The detection, parsing, and markdown conversion all happen locally on your device. We don't see, store, or transmit any of your chat content.
Each markdown file contains one conversation with its title, date, message count, and the full exchange labeled by role (User / Assistant). Code blocks are preserved as-is; internal reasoning ('thinking') content and attachments are excluded or shown as placeholders so the files read like the conversation you actually saw.
Yes. Switch the format to JSON before downloading and each conversation becomes a simple, AI-readable JSON file with the conversation title, its source platform, an export timestamp, and every message with its role, content, and timestamp.
Yes. The converter uses a Web Worker to parse your file in a background thread, so your browser stays responsive even with years of conversations. There's no file size limit. If your browser can load it, we can convert it.
Make sure you're uploading the official data export (the zip you were emailed, or the JSON inside it) rather than a saved web page or a screenshot. If it still isn't recognized, tell us via the chat widget. Formats change occasionally, and we fix this tool quickly when they do.
