Grok has no built-in export button on grok.com or in the X app. The official route is your xAI account data download: go to accounts.x.ai/data, sign in, and click Download in the 'Download account data' section. You'll receive a zip archive containing your Grok conversation history as JSON. That's what you upload here.
The xAI archive covers conversations tied to your xAI account. Chats held inside X may live in X's separate data archive instead. If your file doesn't parse or looks incomplete, request your data directly from accounts.x.ai and use that archive.
Because there's no export button, your Grok history is only as safe as your account. A backup in markdown gives you a portable, readable copy of every conversation, insurance against account issues, and freedom to take your data anywhere.
Yes, completely. Everything runs in your browser. Your conversations are never uploaded to any server. The parsing and markdown conversion happen locally on your device. We don't see, store, or transmit any of your chat content.
Each markdown file contains one conversation with its title, date, message count, and the full exchange labeled by role (User / Assistant). If you edited messages and created branches, we follow the conversation's active branch (the version you'd see in the app). Code blocks are preserved as-is.
