See everything Claude remembers about you

Claude's memory is now a folder of markdown files, tucked inside your data export. Drop your memories.json (or the whole export zip) to explore every file, see when each one last changed, and download it all as markdown. Nothing leaves your device.

How it works

From export to insight in three steps

01

Export your Claude data

In Claude, open Settings > Privacy > Your data and choose Export data. You'll get an email with a download link. Large accounts get a manifest file pointing at several batch zips instead of one file. The first batch zip is the one with memories.json inside.

02

Drop your export here

Drop memories.json directly, or the whole first batch zip and we'll find the memory file inside it. Everything is parsed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and no memory content ever reaches our servers.

03

Explore, then take a copy

See your memory as a treemap, read every file with formatting intact, and check when each one last changed. Then download the whole tree as markdown, or copy it as one document. That's the copy-everything button Claude's settings page doesn't have.

or click to browse

Nothing leaves your device. Your file is read entirely in this browser tab.

Good to know

Claude memory, explained

Where do I find my memories.json file?

In Claude, go to Settings > Privacy > Your data and click Export data. Anthropic emails you a download link. If you have a lot of conversations you'll get a manifest file with links to several batch zips (each link works exactly once). memories.json sits in the first batch zip, next to your conversations, projects, and account info.

Is my memory uploaded anywhere?

No. Your file is parsed entirely in this browser tab and never leaves your device. Our analytics record that the tool was used, never what your memory says.

What is Claude's file-based memory?

Claude now maintains memory as a set of markdown files with paths like /profile.md, /preferences.md, and separate files for individual people and topics, each with its own last-updated time. It's separate from your chat history and from project knowledge. Exports can also include the older summary-style conversation memory and per-project memories, and this tool shows all three.

Why can't I just copy my memory from Claude's settings?

Claude's Memory settings page shows one file at a time, and there's no button to copy or download everything at once. The data export is the only complete snapshot, and this tool turns that snapshot into something you can read, filter, and save as markdown.

My export has no memory files. Is something wrong?

Not necessarily. Some accounts still use the older summary-style memory, and some haven't built up memory files yet. If your memories.json only has the older format, the tool shows that summary and any project memories instead.

Can I move this memory to another AI?

The files are plain markdown, so you can paste them into any AI you like. The catch is that a snapshot goes stale the moment you keep chatting. If you want one memory that stays current across Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and the rest of your tools, that's what MemoryPlugin does.
